KC Trip

Jeff has been attending a flight school in Wichita, KS since 1/11. He’s getting rated in another type of jet to be able to fly for Vermeer. Very exciting for him for work, but very lonely for Decker and I and Jeff to have him gone for almost 3 weeks. Thanks to both of our parents for helping me out while he was gone!!! So Decker and I headed down to KC this past weekend to meet halfway since he got the day off Sun.

We decided to stay with my sister Fri. night though since Jeff wouldn’t be able to meet us until Sat. evening. For those of you that don’t know, my sister has gotten a job at the Wallace Centers of Iowa and is the farm chef at the family farm near Orient which has a restaurant, catering, etc. (I’ll put a plug in for her – wallace.org if you’re interested). Anyway, we are so excited to have her close to home. It’s been 11.5 years since her and I have lived in the same state! Katie is renting a house in Winterset and we hung out there until Sat. afternoon. We had several good meals that she cooked for us and had fun walking around the square in Winterset and having dance parties :)

We met up with Jeff Sat. evening and Decker was so excited to see his daddy! I wish I could have captured a picture of the huge smile on his face. We met at the Kansas Speedway exit as there’s all kinds of restaurants, an outlet mall, Cabelas, etc. Sat. night we got supper and went swimming in the hotel pool. Decker had a blast swimming – mommy did not have a blast putting on her swimsuit in the middle of winter. Luckily I was taking pictures so none were taken of me, ha! Sun. we went swimming again then ate lunch at the T-Rex Café. Decker liked seeing all of the dinosaurs although when they started to roar the first time he got a little nervous. We sat in the underwater section but walked around and checked out all of the dinosaurs. They also have an area where kids can dig for dinosaur fossils and a little cave they can go through. Decker had lots of fun and even got a souvenir dinosaur from the gift shop! Of course Daddy and Decker had to go to Cabela’s after that. (I did get to go into one outlet store and being the good mom went to Carters! Would like to go back for more shopping…) Decker enjoyed looking at all the animals at Cabela’s and especially the bi-plane they have hanging. Although he had a lot of questions about how it got up there. Alas, it was time to say goodbye to Jeff. We were thankful he was close enough at school that we could at least break up the time apart a little bit. Can't wait to see him on Friday!

Swimming at the hotel

T-Rex Cafe - Decker was a little scared of the really big dinosaur

Checking out the cave

Digging for bones

Exploring the restaurant

Throwing coins in the fountain

Checking out the animals at Cabelas

Decker trying to hold a fishing pole about 4 times as long as him. You can see it go across the aisle :)

Hanging out at Aunt Katie's

Where is Decker??? He LOVES to play hide and seek!

Decker has such the imagination. He was driving a monster truck and the place mats were his gas and brake pedals.

On the way home we stopped in Mt. Ayr for Decker to spend a couple of days with Granny and Pampa. Claire and Decker have lots of fun playing together!
