The Flying Dutch: Happy Halloween!

Candy, candy, candy! Boy, did we have a fun few days for Halloween! My little boy has been all wound up and really got into the trick or treating, i.e. getting lots of free candy :) This past weekend we headed down to Mt. Ayr again as Jeff went hunting for the weekend. We visited the Nelson Place and enjoyed getting to see more friends. On Sat. mom, Katie, Katie, Claire, Nina, Decker and I made cupcakes and had fun decorating. Decker had fun sampling and kept stealing the mini cupcakes out of the trays. Sat. night one of our favorite bands – Jason Boland – was playing in Leon, IA of all places. So the adults got dressed up and had a fun night out. On Sun. Decker had lots of fun trick or treating!! Kim, Evan and Mallory came over and joined us. Decker loves hanging out with the older kids. Sat. night they played all night together so Decker was excited that he got to play with Evan again and even better that Evan was an ISU football player. We went to the nursing home and up and down Shellway Drive. This year Decker was a banana. At daycare Kimmie had a picture of an adult banana costume from a magazine. Decker brought the picture home and told me he HAD to be a banana. We looked at several other costumes but the banana won out. Thank goodness for the internet! He turned out be a cute little piece of fruit!! And we’ve had fun dancing at home to the song Day-O in his banana costume. He thought it was so funny to have a song about bananas! On Monday Decker had a party at daycare. He liked seeing all his friends dressed up too. Mon. night we went trick or treating in Pella with grandma. We went to their house and to the nursing home that Jeff's grandma is in. Decker really enjoyed the full bag of candy from Grandpa Great. I think Jeff and I will have to help him eat some of it!
